For many years, CityClub and the Seattle Post-Intelligencer co-hosted a Jefferson Awards luncheon. We formed a panel of judges, took nominations, chose winners - one of whom goes on to the National Jefferson Awards competition - and held a luncheon in their honor. It has been an annual and cherished event.

Women and teens can learn how to defend themselves at a self-defense demonstration from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. June 14 at the Golden Triangle YMCA, 1465 David Walker Drive, Tavares.
A video, Just Yell Fire, about empowering girls to protect themselves will be shown followed by a demonstration and hands-on activities
The instructor, Chris LeRoux, is a fifth-degree black belt and has more than 30 years of experience.
Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing.

VANCOUVER, Wash. - She's cute, smart, and registered as a lethal weapon in the state of Washington. Seventeen-year-old Dallas Jessup of Vancouver, Wash. is launching a one-woman assault on violence against girls.
“In even just North America, every two minutes a girl is raped. I mean, statistics like that are outrageous and I'm not the person who is willing to sit by and let that happen,” she said.
Jessup, a black belt in taekwondo, developed a course called "Just Yell Fire."...
